Building Teardrop Trailers

Many owners of teardrop trailers go to gatherings or camping events specifically held for these trailers. They are popular throughout Australia, Europe and North America.

Sometime during the mid-1930s, Mechanics Illustration and other similar magazines published plans for building the trailers. Back then, the first  trailers used hardwood spars and standard sheets of plywood that measured 4 feet by 8 feet. Six decades later, towards the late 1990s, plans for building them became available online. Contemporary  trailer builders discovered that the latest polyurethane glues made it very easy to make them using inexpensive materials. They attribute this to the strength of the glue; they report that the glue creates a monocoque and made “homemade”  trailers look well made even if their builders lack professional skills in woodworking.

They are some of the more unique travel trailers you’ll ever come across. These trailers are fun, versatile and inexpensive compared to other travel trailers. They have been featured on HGTV, The Price is Right, The Speed Channel, The Travel Channel and on various Internet sites.
