Building Teardrop Trailers
Many owners of teardrop trailers go to gatherings or camping events specifically
held for teardrop trailers. Teardrop trailers are popular throughout Australia,
Europe and North America.
Sometime during the mid-1930s, Mechanics Illustration and other similar
magazines published plans for building teardrop trailers. Back then, the first
teardrop trailers used hardwood spars and standard sheets of plywood that
measured 4 feet by 8 feet. Six decades later, towards the late 1990s, plans for
building teardrop trailers became available online. Contemporary teardrop
trailer builders discovered that the latest polyurethane glues made it very easy
to make teardrop trailers using inexpensive materials. They attribute this to
the strength of the glue; they report that the glue creates a monocoque and made
"homemade" teardrop trailers look well made even if their builders lack
professional skills in woodworking.
Teardrop trailers are some of the more unique travel trailers you'll ever come
across. These trailers are fun, versatile and inexpensive compared to other
travel trailers. Teardrop trailers have been featured on HGTV, The Price is
Right, The Speed Channel, The Travel Channel and on various Internet sites. |
